Transgender Teen’s NFT Sales Soar Past $50M Milestone

Transgender teen Victor Langlois has earned close to $50 million selling NFT versions of his artworks according to a report by NBC in honor of pride month.

Victor first came into the limelight in June 2021 after selling five sets of physical NFT artworks for a total of $2.16 million through Christie’s auction house. The collection titled “Hello, I’m Victor (FEWOCiOUS), and This Is My Life” focused on his childhood and gender transition.

Since then, the 19-year-old artist has sold even more artworks on NFT marketplaces. He has gradually become a household name in the space and even sold close to $20 million worth of NFTs within 24 hours on Nifty Gateway. This was the third-largest sale on the NFT marketplace, according to Fortune.

Also known as FEWOCiOUS, the artist told Fortune about his challenges growing up as a transgender kid: “It’s been hard for me to process, to be honest,” he said.

After being taken from an abusive household to live with his grandparents, Langlois claimed living with them wasn’t much better. In an interview with Esquire, he said, “I thought I would be safe, but they were just as mean.”

He also told the magazine he was scared of coming out because his family members are religious. Additionally, he mentioned how his Latina grandmother couldn’t make sense of his decision to pursue art.

“I think she struggled so much that she just wanted security. To see me wanting to pursue art, she was like: ‘What? Be a lawyer.’ Which I understand. But it hurt when she would say, ‘Your art is ugly and that’s why you can’t do it.”

Now that he has achieved some success, Langlois doesn’t plan to stop. According to him, the NFT trade has taught him that art isn’t necessarily still painting. “The dream isn’t to relax and do nothing, the dream is to draw,” he added.
